Stepping into the Oblivion is a dice-less and GM-full TTRPG about the reunion of a group of friends, the stories they remember around a great trip they made and the realization of time as an enemy of remembrance, and the fading of said memories. The game builds around a growing sequence of dominoes, each holding a relevant detail about the trip. What happens when the tiles stop fitting together, and none of your friends can help out?

Stepping into the Oblivion also comes with 2 different game modes, with slightly different rules and a very different feel. One of them is narrated in the present, as if the Travellers were adventuring now, and rounds are also faster, contributing to a more exciting pace. The other is narrated in the past tense, and every forgotten memory feels much heavier, as if something forgotten now, many many years later, cannot possibly be recovered.

This entry is a result of the Tiny Tome single-page RPG jam - the original version, created in August 2021, for the RPGenesis jam, is available in portuguese

For this version I am grateful to both my sister LusoKarma and to @Ink_And_Stories for the feedback given.

Now available is also the Extended Edition, which not only has a higher page count, but is also more detailed, easier to learn and with improved layout, along with a couple extra features not included in the two-page version.

I like the concept a lot, but I'm not clear as to whether the tiles should in some way be defining an aspect of the journey, and if not, how a memory couldn't be made to fit... Is there a correlation between the numbers and memories?

The general idea is that every time you want to place a tile, you draw randomly from the pile and must try to place it, so you never know if it will be possible (the only tile you know beforehand is the one from the Unforgettable Memory). Maybe it isn't very clear in the document, I'll try to make it clearer.

Regarding the actual numbers,  in this edition they are not really relevant. They could be used for oracles (and that would enable solo-play), could be used to transform the final tile disposition into a map or a dungeon (if you associate every number to something, like in Tiny Library's dice-based dungeon generator) or to create some alternate rules. These are all options I'm considering if I expand this game at a later point, without the 2-page restriction.

I think it's an idea worth expanding. I may throw some of my own ideas on it for me, and if I do I'll send them to you.

I'd love to hear your ideas 🥰

I agree, there's a lot that can be done with dominoes tiles in TTRPGs!
